Spectra Breast Pump Accessories

Whether you're an exclusively pumping mom, doing a combination of breastfeeding and pumping, or just using your Spectra pump occasionally, having the right gear can make a big difference.

In this article, we’ll explore Spectra breast pump accessories to enhance your pumping routine and make life as a busy mom a little bit easier. This information is relevant for multiple Spectra breast pumps including the Spectra S1, Spectra S2, Spectra Gold, and Spectra Gold Portable.

As for me, I’m a mom of 5 kids ages 6 weeks through 8 years old, and I’ve used my Spectra pump for over 8 years. I work full time, so pumping is a part of my daily routine starting when I go back to work around 12 weeks up until my babies are 12 months old. I’ve spent literally thousands of hours with my Spectra pump over the years and so have a lot of personal experience.

By the way, I am not sponsored by or affiliated with Spectra in any way other than as a user of their pump for over 8 years. So you can rest assured that the opinions and tips I share are mine alone and based on my own personal experience.

Without further ado, let’s go over everything you need to know about Spectra breast pump accessories.

What Are Spectra Breast Pump Accessories?

We’ll break Spectra breast pump accessories into two categories:

  1. The Spectra breast pump parts that come with the pump that are essential to its function

  2. Spectra breast pump accessories that do not come with the pump but may be necessary depending on your lifestyle and individual needs

First, let’s quickly cover the basic Spectra breast pump parts that will come in your box. I remember opening the box for the first time having zero prior experience with breast pumps and having no idea what to do with all of these different pieces. Don’t worry, I’ve got you!

Here are the basic Spectra breast pump accessories from the box.

This image also shows how they fit together for easy assembly.

Note that Spectra pumps come with two standard-sized flanges, but not every mom fits the standard sizes. Improper flange size can lead to discomfort and reduced milk output.

Full disclosure—I don’t personally replace my Spectra pump parts nearly as frequently as the recommendations from the Spectra website. Why? I haven’t needed to. My Spectra pump and its parts have been durable, and they’ve lasted a long time.

I always have a second set of all accessories on hand in case of damage or loss.

Essential Accessories for Your Spectra Breast Pump

1. A Spare Set Of Spectra Breast Pump Parts

  • I have found my Spectra pump parts to be extremely durable, however, it’s simply too important to not have spare parts on hand in case of breaking or losing your original parts.

  • I highly recommend having an extra set of all parts on hand in case of loss or damage. I have temporarily misplaced parts before, and if you don’t have all of the critical parts, you can’t use your pump.

  • The only damage or breakage I’ve experienced in over 8 years was one time when a piece of the backflow assembly broke off when I dropped the entire flange and bottle setup on the ground from chest height. Whoops!

  • I shared links to the specific parts above, so scroll up and check those out if needed.

2. Milk Storage Bags

  • Milk storage bags are a must for pumping mamas. They allow you to freeze your milk and save it for later.

  • I personally have used the Lansinoh milk storage bags for years and love them, but any breast milk storage bag should work.

  • Some breastmilk storage bags are designed to connect directly to the pump for those moms who will be pumping and immediately storing their milk.

3. A Hands-Free Pumping Bra

  • I definitely consider the ability to pump hands-free a necessity! Whether you need to pump while youre working, reading, relaxing, or something else, it’s so helpful to have your hands free. Hands free pumping bras make it easy.

  • Here is the hands-free pumping bra that I use, but again, any brand will work. I have yet to find a pumping bra that doesn’t work with the Spectra flanges.

Optional Accessories to Consider

1. Pumping Bag or Tote

  • A dedicated bag keeps your pump, parts, and accessories organized and protected.

  • I personally love my breast pump backpack, which allows me to be hands free (a must given that I have 5 kids!). I can bring it to work since it’s stylish enough to look nice and even has a sleeve for my laptop. It’s also extremely affordable, so you don’t have to break the bank to get the function you need.

  • I highly recommend looking for styles with insulated compartments for milk storage.

  • Be sure that any bag you purchase says that it’s compatible with or fits Spectra breast pumps.

  • If you will only be pumping at home, you can skip this one.

  • This could also double as a diaper bag

2. Portable Cooler and Ice Packs

  • If you’re a working mom like me or if you will be pumping on the go, a portable breast milk cooler bag is a must for storing milk safely until you get home.

  • Many options come with compartments designed for bottles or breast pump parts. That being said, I’ve used a normal lunch box cooler in a pinch! The extra breast pump accessories pockets and bottle holders are very helpful.

  • Here is one of my favorite portable cooler / breast pump storage bags.

3. Sterilizer Bags

4. Drying Rack

5. Quick-Clean Wipes

  • These are very handy to have when you are pumping on the go, so I would definitely recommend this to other moms who bring their pump to work or when traveling. They allow you to quickly wipe down your pump and parts as well as take care of any milk spills.

  • You can keep these right inside your breast pump bag or diaper bag.
